Walk This Way

Kris Coverdale's walking diary

SWCP leg 2 day 3, Hartland Quay to Bude

July 8, 2014

15 miles, 4500 feet ascent, 8 3/4 hours walking, 35 mins per mile.

According to Helen this was a day of sore feet. I think it was a day about weather, valleys and achievements.

Firstly the achievement. This is reputedly the toughest stretch of the entire SWCP and even just completing it was making me nervous, even more so doing it in reasonable time to get to our B&B and evening meal. As it was, it was very difficult, harder than expected, especially with the weather and the aforementioned sore feet but we made it in good time in around 9 hours walking. This is to be celebrated. Whilst we massage our sore feet.

In profile it had a relatively easy first few miles and last couple of miles but was bonkers in the middle.

The early section would have been straightforward except for indecisive weather which kept flipping from hot and sunny to heavy rain, needing frequent time consuming gear changes, or overheating in waterproofs.
